Neumünster – Almost exactly two years after her win with TSF Dalera BB in the Holstenhallen, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (Aubenhausen) repeated her triumph in the FEI Dressage World Cup in Neumünster. The double Olympic gold medallist, who is just 36 years old, secured victory with TSF Dalera BB with a score of 90.61 percent in the 5th qualifier for the FEI Dressage World Cup in the Prize of the VR Bank zwischen den Meeren and expressed her sincere thanks to VR Bank Board Member Dirk Dejewski: “I would like to thank you on behalf of all the riders, because it is really not a matter of course that sponsors make such an opportunity possible under such difficult conditions after all.”

Dejewski’s nonchalant reply: “That was easy for us, because we are also happy to meet such nice people every year”. The Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken have been partners of the international tournament in the Holstenhallen for almost 40 years and – as Dirk Dejewski emphasised – want to be again next year.

World Cup flair in the Holstenhallen

The few hundred spectators who at short notice got the chance to be on site after the relaxation of the Corona rules for indoor events also left a “powerful impression”. “You could feel it immediately,” said the winner, “it was such a crackling, electrified atmosphere.” And not only that. After every ride in the Grand Prix Freestyle, the audience loudly celebrated horse and rider. Cathrine Dufour from Denmark experienced the Neumünster flair for the first time. The bronze medallist of the European Championships and her team mate Nanna Skodberg Merrald, who have known each other since they were five years old, took second and third place in the FEI Dressage World Cup qualifier. Huge cheers also accompanied Kristy Oatley and Du Soleil out of the arena. Although the pair competes for Australia, Oatley has actually been a Schleswig-Holstein rider by choice for decades and is therefore a “local hero”. She finished seventh in the World Cup qualifier.

Dufour impressed

“I’ve wanted to come here more often, but not every horse comes to terms with an arena like this,” said Dufour, “with Vamos Amigos I dared and I’m very very happy with him.” From now on, she counts herself among the VR CLASSICS fans and is looking forward to when the full programme can take place in 2023. Isabell Werth (Rheinberg) calmly rode her somewhat excited DSP Quantaz through the freestyle, patted the 12-year-old’s neck in between and let him have a good look at the audience after the greeting performance. The Quaterback son is to get back into competition and test routine, and the 2019 Final winner is seeded for the World Cup Final in Leipzig anyway.

Helen Langehanenberg (Billerbeck) and Benjamin Werndl (Aubenhausen) from the German Olympic squad were very unlucky. First Langehanenberg’s mare Annabelle showed signs of lameness, then Werndl’s Famoso OLD also dropped out. Both immediately withdrew from the start. Langehanenberg: “I don’t think it’s anything serious, but we want to clarify that first.” Werndl had previously won the Intermediaire test – FUNDIS Reitsport Preis – in the international small tour with Discover.

Francois Kasselmann looks ahead

Event Director Francois Kasselmann drew a positive balance, also because the joint commitment of the organisers, sponsors and the city made the realisation of the VR CLASSICS meets FEI Dressage World Cup possible. He is already looking ahead to April, because then Horses & Dreams meets Canada ( 20 – 24 April) will take place in Hagen a.T.W.. There, both the final of the BEMER Riders Tour and the first leg of the new Tour season will take place: “And we are already looking forward to seeing everyone here again in February 2023”. Good news has already leaked out from the FEI headquarters in Lausanne – the VR CLASSICS from 16 – 19 February 2023 will once again be a leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup.
